The conference will discuss the seismic and climatic endangerments to the Dubrovnik area and present current scientific research related to the sources of the two biggest natural threats to the Dubrovnik area: earthquakes and climate change. Namely, the Dubrovnik area, and especially the city of Dubrovnik, is one of the most seismically active areas in Croatia. Furthermore, climate change causes a variety of adverse effects that significantly affect the environment and entire ecosystems. The research projects CRONOS, DuFAULT, Klima-4HR and SeisRICHerCRO, carried out by the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, will be presented at the conference, as well as the latest results obtained within their research. Presentations will be given, among others, by Prof. Marijan Herak, Assoc. Prof. Ivana Herceg Bulić and Assoc. Prof. Petar Kružić from the Faculty of Science in Zagreb.
The first day of the conference is dedicated to clarifying the processes that define climate and seismic hazards and presenting the results of specific research in the Dubrovnik area as well as the recommendations that arise from them. It is intended for professionals and the general public with special attention focused on decision-makers, local government and employees of various city and county services.
The second day of the gathering is intended primarily for high school students in order to bring them closer to climatological and seismological topics. The desire is to encourage young people to become aware of and reflect on the natural endangerment in their region, but also on solutions that are scientifically based.
The collaborators of the Klima-4HR project will use their visit to Dubrovnik to perform meteorological measurements in the city that they need for their research, and they will be joined by teachers and students of the Dubrovnik Gymnasium who participate in the GLOBE program.
