The fifth working meeting of the research team of the DuFAULT project was held live on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, starting at 11 a.m., at the Geophysical Department of PMF, where the project results and obligations for the second project period were discussed.
The project manager, Josip Stipčević, started the meeting with a report on the achievements, from the five newly installed seismological stations to the preparation of the structural-tectonic model. The plan is to purchase one AD converter and install two new stations - one on the island of Mljet, and the other on the coast near Dubrovnik. The earthquake catalog and Green's function database are continuously updated, while the new crustal model is being made.
Marijan Herak reported on the current knowledge about the series of earthquakes near Berkovići (BiH), which occurred in the center of the area investigated by the DuFAULT project. The main earthquake happened on April 22, 2022, and had a local magnitude of 6.0. Up to now, we located 6,220 earthquakes in that series. Iva Dasović presented the plan for creating a scientific article about that series of earthquakes. Locating earthquakes within the entire area is done by Davorka Herak and Helena Latečki, who presented the current amount of recorded data by stations.
Marin Sečanj gave the progress report of the geological team. They are currently identifying faults in the structural block Duboka Ljuta - Prevlaka, and they will submit the manuscript for the article on a structural-tectonic model by April. Tena Belinić Topić presented the initial results of tomography using ambient noise analysis.
The tasks for the next few months have been defined, and the conclusion is that the planned activities are progressing well.
